Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent odor. Chief sources of formaldehyde in ambient air include power plants, manufacturing facilities, incinerators, and automobiles. Health effects include coughing, wheezing, chest pains, and bronchitis, and eye, nose and throat irritation.
